Team members earn $100,000 grant to develop wellness coaching program for older adults

AgeWell founder Matthew Fullen has received a $100,000 from Mather Institute to create a wellness coaching pilot program for older adults. according to a Virginia Tech press release. The program aims to help participants rethink the concept of wellness in older adulthood by focusing on eight wellness dimensions: physical, emotional, cognitive, relational, spiritual, vocational, contextual, and developmental.

“We want to change the conversation about aging from one of decline to one of opportunity,” said Fullen. “Eschewing definitions of wellness that merely emphasize physical health is one way to change that conversation.”

The pilot version of the program will begin in the spring of 2021 and will enable staff members in life plan communities to provide wellness coaching.

AgeWell team members Connie Tomlin and Jordan Westcott contributed to the project's development. Read the full press release.
